"Sacred Scripture is the speech of God as it is put down in writing under the breath of the Holy Spirit." Catechism of the Catholic Church 81.
Mission: Lectors are not simply story readers but proclaimers of God’s word. They have the privilege of proclaiming some of the most wonderful stories of history which are still very much a part of our lives today. Through these stories you serve God’s children who come here looking for a challenge and those who are here in need for God’s comforting word. In the absence of a deacon, lectors are responsible for reading the General Intercessions (Prayer of the Faithful) to the parish family.
Membership Requirements / Participation: You should be a registered and practicing parishioner who regularly receives the Sacraments. This person should be a Confirmed Catholic of high school age or older. He/She must possess a clear voice with the ability to read before a group of people. Schedules are mailed and/or e-mailed out periodically. Each Lector is put through a rotation process in accordance to his/her availability and Mass preference(s). You are asked to arrive for your scheduled date about 15 minutes early for personal prayer and to review the readings and General Intercessions.
How to Join: Please call the Rectory at (508) 943-3140 if you have any interest in this ministry. After the appropriate training has been completed a rotation schedule will be generated.
